Approximately 2 weeks after we published this story on Pet Alert, Tara arrived by taxi late at night. The driver told Ann that a man had hailed the cab and paid him to deliver Tara to Ann's home address. Tara had been missing for 4 days short of 1 year. In April 1999 my beloved Rottweiler Tara was stolen from my backyard. Until recently I was a member of the Rottweiler and Northern Obedience Club. Both Clubs were extremely supportive to me during my loss, but my deepest thanks goes to Jodie an Instructor at Northern who happens to work at The Lost Dogs Home in North Melbourne (Victoria). It was August 99 when I got a call from Jodie saying she wanted me to come
down and have a look at a Rottie that had just come in. I told my boss I was off
to the doctors as I wasn't feeling too good (he is not an animal lover) and
taxied it to the Home poste haste. My new beautiful girl I have called Greta who now weighs 42 kilos, she is totally ruined and thanks me every day for saving her. I love her to bits. I still think of Tara every day and will till the day I die. Ann Some of my favourite photos. May 2003 - this post has just come in from Ann continuing here amazing story of her disappearing dogs. I really don't know where to begin with this story as it has now been some years since I last correspondence with you. As you know I had Tara returned to me by taxi in April 1999 and in the interim I also acquired Greta from the Lost Dogs Home here in Melbourne. Both dogs were unfortunately taken from my house in August 2001. I came home that night and discovered that the chains and locks to my gate had been cut and my dogs gone. After extensive searching by myself and the police I could not locate them anywhere. Nearly two years had passed since they were stolen and again I was given a male rottie pup of 6 months who I called Bruin. Bruin has been with me now since April 2002 and has grown up to be an affectionate and lovable boy. He was kept by the original owners in a backyard for his first 6 months and never allowed to enter the house, he had never been socialised nor given any obedience training, but that did not phase me. It has taken me a good 10 months to train him in basis obedience, together with being socialised and to date I have had no problems with him, although he does get a little territorial when people walk past the house, but I guess most dogs can be like that. Last Tuesday evening (6 May 2003) at 10.30pm my front door bell rang. Of course at that time of the evening one always thinks the worst....upon opening the front door who should be standing there but Tara, whoever rang the door bell must have quickly vanished as there was not a sole in sight. Tara is now 8 years old and although she had been fed during those years I am pretty well sure she was never exercised, washed or groomed. The washing and grooming I have taken care of, but her weight is so excessive that it will take time and a lot of exercise and dieting to get her back to her normal weight. Bruin and Tara hit it off straight away, thank goodness. I now have one my beautiful girl's back, who when I opened the door walked straight inside and sat on her favourite coach. Over the past week Tara has settled back into her 'normal' life yet again. She hasn't forgotten anything I taught her...I just hope I will have her around for a lot longer yet. Unfortunately I have not yet had Greta returned, but hope to as 3 Rotties living with me would be the ultimate for them and for me. As you can see I have had my fair share of stress and grief over the past years where my animals are concerned, but one day I do believe that what goes around comes around to the person or persons who had taken my beautiful girls.
